Christmas feels like the perfect time to look back on joyful moments from a while ago — evenings filled with music, movement, and genuine human connection.
Here are a few images from a Christmas dance party organised by The Swing Project, and what a wonderful evening it was. The room was full of energy and warmth: genuine smiles, lively dance moves, feet caught mid-air, and sparkling dresses swirling across the floor. Festive decorations and Christmas outfits added to the sense of celebration, making the whole event feel both joyful and intimate.
Even in social dancing, there’s always a choreography unfolding. It’s not about set routines, but about connection — the subtle communication between dancers, the gentle lead and response, the shared rhythm and trust that guide every movement. As a Lindy Hop dancer myself, this is something I’m always drawn to when photographing dance events. Those fleeting moments of connection often say more than perfectly posed shots ever could.
I’ll admit, it can sometimes be hard to remember that I’m there to work and not to join in — especially when a favourite tune starts playing. Suppressing the urge to dance is part of the job, although quietly humming along is usually unavoidable.
