Sunday 7th December marked the final gig of the year at Black Mountain Jazz Club, and what a lovely way to finish the season — with the BM Jazz Katz and their Christmas in Sight performance
It’s always a joy to watch these young musicians develop over time. Their musical skills have grown enormously, but just as striking is the confidence they now bring to the stage. It shows not only in their individual playing, but in how they listen to one another, respond as a group, and perform together as a band.
The BM Jazz Katz are part of a brilliant Black Mountain Jazz initiative designed to support and nurture young jazz musicians. The programme gives them space to learn, perform, and grow within a supportive and inspiring environment. Under the guidance of their fantastic tutors — Nick Kacal, Jack Mac, and Ryan Thrupp — the group continues to go from strength to strength.
After the performance, the evening naturally flowed into a relaxed bit of socialising, bringing together musicians, parents, and audience members. It was a lovely way to round off the night and a reminder of the strong sense of community that sits at the heart of Black Mountain Jazz Club.
I’m already looking forward to seeing the BM Jazz Katz perform again next year and to following their musical journey as it continues to unfold.
