Behind the Scenes: Photographing ‘A Weak and Feeble Woman’ at the Melville Theatre
Earlier this July, I had the pleasure of photographing the play A Weak and Feeble Woman at the Melville Theatre in Abergavenny — a thought-provoking and powerful production that left a lasting impression on me.
The intimate theatre setting created a moody, atmospheric backdrop, which I loved working with, but it did come with one technical challenge: very low light. Thankfully, my trusty camera (and a bit of experience!) helped me rise to the occasion. I relied on silent shutter mode throughout the performance to ensure I didn’t interrupt the actors or distract the audience. It’s a setting I use often when photographing live events, and it’s a real game-changer when you want to be completely unobtrusive.
The result? A set of candid, expressive images that captured the tension, emotion, and intensity of the play. From quiet monologues to charged confrontations, every scene was rich in detail — and an absolute joy to photograph.
I always enjoy photographing theatre productions, but this one felt special. Thank you to the cast, crew, and director for having me — and for trusting me to document such a meaningful piece of work.
