Photographing the Summer Swing Out Workshop with The Swing Project
July was a busy month, with a mixture of hospitality photography projects and event photography. One of the highlights was photographing another fantastic Summer Swing Out workshop organised by The Swing Project, held at Lee Hall in Dinas Powys.
I've been photographing The Swing Project's events for a number of years now, and it's always a pleasure to be back. Every workshop has its own atmosphere, but they all have one thing in common: a welcoming community brought together by a love of swing dancing.
As a dancer myself, I know that dance is about so much more than learning the steps. It's about communication between partners, the subtle signals, the concentration, the laughter, and those moments when everything suddenly clicks. Those are the moments I always look for through my camera.
When I'm photographing a dance workshop, I'm not only documenting the event. I want people to remember how it felt to be there. The smiles after finally getting a move right, the encouragement from teachers, the focus during practice, and the connection between leaders and followers all tell the story of the day.
It was lovely to see so many familiar faces alongside dancers attending their first workshop. Watching everyone encourage each other and enjoy the day created a fantastic atmosphere, and it was a privilege to capture those memories.
